Mahalaya is the most important day of Pitri Paksha, when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors. The Goddess Durga arrives on the Earth on the first day of Devi Paksha, which starts on the next day of Mahalaya Amavasya during Pitri Paksha. According to Hindu religious texts Durga Puja, including Chandi Path, begins from the next day of Mahalaya Amavasya.
SPUVIC performs Mahalya rituals as well as listen to Chandi Path (recitation) together with all our community members in a sober mode followed with a traditional feast.
